CASSONE

1472
This Florentine cassone and spallaera (the portion which hangs on the wall above the cassone) is one of a pair made to commemorate the marriage of Lorenzo di Matteo de Morelli and Vagia di Tania de Francesco de' Nerli. Resting on large paw feet, the chest is carved and gilded in a bold and rich manner. The central painted panel depicts life in early Rome.
