Baronial Seal Presentation Cases

On October 23, 1998, the Barony of Thor's Mountain celebrated the 20th anniversary of our beloved Baroness' investiture.  To commemorate this august occasion, we commissioned a pair of seals.  One of the Baronial Arms, to be passed on to the next Baron, for so long as the line lasts, and one for Mistress Godelind to keep for her self, as a token of our appreciation for her long and heavy service.  Click on the image for a high-resolution picture.

Working in concert with Lord Richard of the Sylvan glade, I made a matching pair of presentation cases.  We wanted our creation to match Godelind's persona as closely as we could.  Such a case would most likely have been made of English oak.  As it is very expensive to get the English to chop down a piece of what remains of Sherwood Forest and ship it over here to the Colonies, Lord Richard and I opted for a species called "Silver Oak."  We are in disagreement as to the provenance.  I say it's Australian, and he claims that it is native to the American southwest.

Regardless of it's origin, Silver Oak does have a grain pattern that is similar to English oak.  A careful mixing of stains and sealants gave us a finish that closely matched English oak, at least when new.
