This is the left finial. This was my first effort at carving in the round. In a classic example of "bad Laurel," I started the carving before completing my research. It turns out that I have been utterly unable to find an example of a medieval savanarola chair with carved animal-head finials. Most of the examples I have found have either had gently rounded ends or a round ball for a finial. |
