A Blank Expression

 This is the rough blank.  It's about 3/4" thick and ten inches long.  You want your blank to be slightly thicker than the overall depth of the bowl of the finished spoon.  Note the knot in the blank.  This formed a natural depression in the blank that we decided to incorporate in the completed spoon.
